The Autonomous University of Barcelona UAB researchers have created the first wormhole (wormhole) experimental that connects two regions of space magnetically. It is a tunnel that transfers a magnetic field from one end to the other, keeping it undetectable, invisible, along the entire path, the aforementioned university reports in a statement.
In physics, a wormhole, also known as Einstein-Rosen bridge, is a hypothetical topological feature of a spacetime, described in the equations of general relativity, which essentially consists of a shortcut through space and time.

In the gravitational field it is impossible therefore to create Wormholes with current technology, since the field would have to be manipulated with large amounts of gravitational energy, which no one yet knows how to generate. In electromagnetism, however, advances in metamaterials and invisibility have allowed researchers to propose various designs to achieve this.
The UAB researchers have used metamaterials and metasurfaces to build the experimental tunnel, so that the magnetic field from a source, such as a magnet or an electromagnet, appears at the other end of the tunnel. wormhole like an isolated magnetic monopole.
The result, according to the press release released by the UAB, is already a curious fact, given that magnetic monopoles do not exist in nature, that is, magnets with a single pole, either North or South. The effect, in short, is that of a magnetic field that goes from one point to another as if it were propagating through a dimension foreign to the three conventional dimensions.
A magnetic worm hole
The wormhole experimental is a sphere made of different layers: an external layer of ferromagnetic surface, a second layer inside, of superconducting material, and a ferromagnetic piece rolled in the shape of a cylinder that runs through it from end to end. The sphere is constructed in such a way that it is magnetically undetectable - invisible, in terms of magnetic field - from the outside.
The wormhole Magnetic is an analogy of gravitational ones, since “it changes the topology of space, as if the interior region had been magnetically erased from space,” explains Àlvar Sánchez, director of the research, in the aforementioned press release.
The same researchers already built a magnetic fiber in 2014, a device capable of transporting the magnetic field from one end to the other. Now, the fiber was magnetically detectable.
The wormhole developed now, however, is a completely three-dimensional device that is undetectable by any magnetic field.
This is a step forward that brings it closer to possible applications where the magnetic field is used, such as, for example, in medicine. Thus, this technology could allow the patient to be moved away from the detectors when having MRIs in hospitals (providing more comfort) or obtaining MRI images of different parts of the body simultaneously.
